This is the patch for Mac OS 9.0 - 9.0.4.

I'm sorry that the patching process didn't work out for you. Here's away to get Virtue and/or Nu Sans in the Appearance control panel. There's a few more steps, but they aren't too hard to figure out.

You can download below the resource you will need to paste into the extension using ResEdit. ResEdit is a free utility from Apple Computer available for downloading (if you don't already have it).

Instructions for Mac OS 8.0 & 8.1:

  1. Download Virtue.sfn#.
  2. Make a copy of the Appearance Extension (it's in the Extensions folder of your System folder)
  3. Move the copy to the Extensions (disabled) folder. You can use this copy if anything goes wrong by holding down the space bar on startup and using the Extensions Manager to switch to it.
  4. Double click on the "Virtue.sfn#" file. This will start ResEdit.
  5. Open the Appearance Extension in ResEdit
  6. Copy the sfn# icon from "Virtue.sfn#"
  7. Switch to the "Appearance Extension" window in ResEdit and paste it in. Press the "Yes" button to the "Replace resources with same ID?" dialogue that comes up.
  8. Quit ResEdit

And that's it! To use Virtue and/or Nu Sans, simply restart your computer and then open the Appearance Control Panel. While holding down the "option" key, switch to the desired font.

Instructions for Mac OS 8.5 - 9.x:

  1. Download Virtue.sfe# sfn# sfs#.
  2. Make a copy of the System file (it's in your System folder) by holding down "Option" while dragging the file to the desktop.
  3. Double click on the "Virtue.sfe# sfn# sfs#" file. This will start ResEdit.
  4. Open the System file (that you copied to the desktop) in ResEdit
  5. Copy the sfe# sfn# and sfs# icons from "Virtue.sfe# sfn# sfs#"
  6. Switch to the "System" window in ResEdit and paste it in. Press the "Yes" button to the "Replace resources with same ID?" dialogue that comes up.
  7. Quit ResEdit and any other running applications
  8. Move the System file (the one that's still in the System folder) to the trash and move the System file from the desktop into the System folder.

And that's it! To use Virtue and/or Nu Sans, simply restart your computer and then open the Appearance Control Panel.
